About the Project

Nourish International, is partnering with African Sky to provide resources and supplies for the expansion of a tailor workshop in rural Mali.  The head tailor currently produces organic cotton scrubs, and through this partnership, will receive 4 more pedal sewing machines and supplies to expand the workshop.  The sale of refined products (scrubs) rather than raw materials provides farmers and tailors with a direct revenue stream and fair wages.  All fabrics are  purchased Fair Trade in Mali.

Throughout the year, Emory students held events in the Atlanta community to raise donations for the project, and several students will be traveling to Mali this June to bring the initial sewing machines for the workshop.

Students from Emory wrote a grant for their African Sky project, and were awarded a Clinton Global Initiative University Outstanding Commitment Award through the Pat Tillman Foundation; the Pat Tillman/Clinton Global Initiative funds will help fund this project. The Pat Tillman Foundation supports student dedication to progressing social change throughout the world.
